Storm's gone and the snow is here.

The storm has moved out and we have glorious new snow for winter fun. The road is plowed and at this moment the pass is closed so come on up and enjoy the warmer weekend weather. Frost on the mountains

Today we woke to frost on everything and little hail like pellets on the ground. The leaves are beautiful, the air crisp, a perfect sweater day here in the mountains.

New Cabin now open!

The Elk Cabin (3 bedroom, 2 bath)is now open and available for reservations. Elk cabin has a queen bed in 2 of its bedrooms and a pair of twin beds in the 3rd bedroom. In addition it has a lovely kitchen/dining/living room and wrap around deck with incredible views in all directions.
New to the establishment, Elk Cabin has TV. Yep folks we now offer the Lodge and Elk cabins with satellite TV. Still no phone in the cabins but there is one always available at the office and cell service seems to be getting stronger here.

Spring?

Yesterday was a bit cloudy in the morning with the clouds hanging low on the mountains. It may look wintry but this pussy willow is confident the warm weather is just around the next week. The ice out on Twin Lakes is nearly complete usually signaling great fishing for those big Lake Trout.
Here at the lodge we are busy working on the cabins, fixing those inevitable things that break, painting and sprucing up for the summer so all will be beautiful when you visit next.
Two of our guests were up on South Elbert skiing some bowls yesterday, they said they had a fabulous ski day. We won't have many of those(fabulous ski days) left and soon it will be fabulous hiking days.

April is nearly here already and it has been months since I have written; gallivanting around does tend to inhibit getting things done on the home front.

We have enjoyed a nice winter this year with an average amount of snow and cold. Of course after last year this feel like a balmy winter. March is typically our snowiest month but this year we haven't had any to speak of. I noticed that our running average for water year to date has dropped below average while our snow pack is still above. An interesting anomaly. I assume that's telling us that the snow we received this winter was drier than normal, the light fluffy powder that skiers are so fond of. Click on daily graph under current water year and you can see how our snow has come in this year. The Brumley monitoring site is just up the pass from us.
